Curriculum vitae of Prof. MICHELE CINI
29/11/1946 - born in Pisa
18/11/1969 - I obtained, in Pisa, the degree in Physics cum laude , discussing a thesis on Landau levels in semiconductors (supervisor Prof. F. Bassani).
15/2/1970 - Research worker at the Donegani Institute (Montedison), Novara.
1970 - I Qualified as a teacher of Mathematics and Physics in high schools.
15/6/1970 - Research worker at the Laboratories of Agip Nucleare (ENI Group) San Piero a Grado near Pisa.
3/6/ 1973 - Research worker at the Laboratori ricerche di Base SNAM PROGETTI, Monterotondo (Rome) ENI Group, (I had Prof. G. Careri as director)
February 1979 - I gave a course at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (troisieme Cycle de la physique en Suisse Romande) on "The physical properties of metal particles".
1/12/1982 - I am hired at the National Research Council (CNR), "Instituto di Metodologie Avanzate Inorganiche", with a 5 years contract. In this position I held two official courses for the degree in Physics at the University of L' Aquila.
1987 - I won the contest as a permanent research worker at the CNR.
1987 - I wrote the article "Auger Effect" for the Dictionary of Physical Sciences of the Treccani Encyclopaedia.
16/2/1988 - I became Associate professor at the Università of Rome Tor Vergata, Department of Physics.
1993 - 1977 - Paper of mine re-published by Solid State Communications among the most important of the previous the 30 years.
1996 - Member of a Committee for a Doctorate in Physics to the Scuola Normale in Pisa.
1997 - Member of a Committee for a Doctorate in Physics, University of Cagliari.
1/3/2000 - I became full professor at the University of Rome 'Tor Vergata'.
I was coordinator of European projects and member of boards of scientific of conferences.
Currently I am in a board for Springer Verlag, referee of many international reviews. My biography is found on "Who' s who in the World".
RESEARCH ACTIVITY: MAIN RESULTS
-
Electron spectroscopies: the concept of two-hole resonances resonances. A popular theory of Auger CVV and APECS spectra, APECS of solids.
Models of the photoemission spectra and other electron spectroscopies of valence, accounting for phonon and plasmon excitations.
-
The method of the excitation amplitudes: a recursion technique that gives exact Green functions of a wide class of models.
My review article on the method is referenced in the new edition of the book of Mahan "Many-Particle Physics".
-
Dynamic atom-surface interaction and stimulated desorption: a theory of the desorption induced from Auger effect that simultaneously
accounts for Menzel-Gomer-Redhead processes and the mechanism of Knotek-Feibelman.
-
Physics of small metal particles: contributions to the theory of the quantum size effects on the dielectric and optical response;
a detailed interpretation of XPS, Auger, BIS and XANES spectra of metallic particles interacting with a substrate, like those of Pd grown on graphite.
-
Transport of electrons through junctions and solar cells: a framework for quantum transport that has growing success today provided in 1980
the first exact solutions of the many-body transport through junctions with time-dependent bias.
-
Nonlinear optics: a) a theory for the second harmonic spectra from interfaces of semiconductors;
b) a non- perturbative reformulation of the quantum theory, suitable for strong fields, with new sum rules valid to all orders.
-
Superconductivity: A. Balzarotti and I proposed W=0 pairing, a quantum mechanism producing bound fermion pairs from repulsive interactions.
A basic ingredient is the symmetry. The theory yields the superconducting pattern of magnetic flux quantization and the Josephson effect.
